False cognates are pretty common in other languages too.

False false cognates are the worst.

Here's an example I threw out:

"Estudien para recibir buenas marcas."

marca = mark  (nope here)

marca = brand

marks (grades) = notas --?

notas can have multiple definitions, in reference to notes, grades, or to note something

A good test of this would be how well you do with Spanish pun jokes.

POTA-TOE, POTA-TOH

INTOXICATED IS NOT INTOXICADO

...most interpreters and instructors know and will share the story of the $72 million mistranslated word that led to a patient's quadriplegic status.

Intoxicated | Borracho

NOT: intoxicado
